Miller Ferry: the workhorse from Catawba Point
Miller Boat Line has been floating people to South Bass Island for generations and remains the cheapest way across. Boats leave Catawba Point (the tip of the Catawba peninsula, off Route 53 North) roughly every half hour in peak season, carrying walk-ons, bicycles, golf carts and vehicles. The catch: Miller lands at Lime Kiln Dock on the island's quiet south shore, about 2 miles from downtown Put-in-Bay. From the village of Marblehead, the Kelleys Island Ferry carries passengers and vehicles across the short channel to Kelleys Island. It runs the longest season of any Lake Erie island boat, sailing as long as ice allows, and unlike Put-in-Bay it is genuinely practical to bring a car over.
